The development of mobile devices, cloud solutions, social media use within firms and the extension of Internet applications to the "physical" through Internet of Things (IoT) have favored the link between "business" and "digital". As a result, large volumes of high velocity, complex and variable data (Big Data) are more and more stored, specific tools for data analysis are more and more needed leading to more digital transformations.
Besides transformation of IT deployment, the adoption of such disruptive tools and technologies imposes additional challenges to firms that are pushed "to create new business models that consider and leverage the increased digitization" (Gebhart et al., 2016). Recent studies show also that the digital skills are the most needed ones to improve doing jobs.
To highlight this interrelation between "business" and "digital", this book focuses on examining the concept of digitalization which is related, according to Gartner (2017), to the use of digital technologies in order to improve businesses, create new revenues and value-producing opportunities. Thus, digitalization allows organizations to change their business model and value chains with the use of disruptive technologies and digital data.
Such business transformations should be understood and mastered by providing practical tools and frameworks to assist managers in dealing with digitalization challenges. In this book, a special focus will be on transitional economies facing big concerns and challenges linked to unexpected events and additional global pressures. Digitalization and digital transformation can be, at the time, sources of opportunities and risks for such economies when dealing with globalization challenges.
This book aims to:
– Identify latest trends, business opportunities and challenges linked to digitalization.
– Define concepts in relation with business transformations caused by digitalization.
– Share useful experiences and best practices to deal with the new technological changes.
– Present new theoretical and empirical frameworks related to the topics.
– Identify the effects of new digital transformations at the organizational, economic, social, societal and environmental levels.
– Researchers in the field of management, information systems and entrepreneurship (professors, Advanced-level students, researchers). – Professionals (business managers, consultants).
Recommended topics include, but are not limited to, the following:
– Business-IT alignment under digitalization;
– Cloud-based Enterprise systems (ERP, CRM, SCM, 360°…) adoption;
– Digital (social) ventures (independent, internal and corporate venturing);
– Digital business processes and collaborations;
– Digital entrepreneurship;
– Digital orientation and alternative strategic orientations in Small, Medium-sized and Large organizations and impacts on organizational performance;
– Digitalization and social firms/entrepreneurship and economy;
– Digitalization and sustainability of businesses;
– Digitalization experiences from developing countries and transitional economies (MENA, Africa,…) and from different sectors (Healthcare, Education and Training, Transportation, Public Governance, Tourism…);
– Digitalization, entrepreneurial competencies and ambidexterity;
– Disruptive technologies (Cloud computing, Internet of Things, Big data) and digitalization challenges;
– Impacts of digitalization on jobs/skills/labour market;
– Innovative digital business models;
– Managing privacy under digitalization;
– Social challenges/issues linked to or leveraged by digitalization.
Researchers and practitioners are invited to submit on or before December 30, 2017, a chapter proposal of 1,000 to 2,000 words clearly explaining the mission and concerns of his or her proposed chapter. Authors will be notified by January 15, 2018 about the status of their proposals and sent chapter guidelines. Full chapters are expected to be submitted by April 30, 2018, and all interested authors must consult the guidelines for manuscript submissions at http://www.igi-global.com/publish/contributor-resources/before-you-write/ prior to submission. All submitted chapters will be reviewed on a double-blind review basis. Contributors may also be requested to serve as reviewers for this project.
Note: There are no submission or acceptance fees for manuscripts submitted to this book publication, Trust in Knowledge Management and Systems in Organizations. All manuscripts are accepted based on a double-blind peer review editorial process.
